The Forge Father is a husband and father of three that writes to (hopefully) inspire others to take charge of their family, fitness, and finances so they can thrive in this challenging world.

I’m in my mid-(to late)-thirties, work a pretty typical middle-management-type corporate job, and moonlight as a savvy investor. I’m hoping to reach my FIRE goal before age 40.

My kids think I’m the funniest guy in the world – and intend on keeping it that way for as long as possible.

My wife and I met at work. After a few years of dating and traveling, we got married and settled down to have a family. While the plan was for her to go back to work after having our first child, we decided that she would stay at home and we would try to make it work on just my income. 5 years later, with three boys now, and we’ve decided to homeschool.

My wife is a saint – none of this is easy.

The Journey

I grew up in a middle-class family (in the U.S.), did well in school, and followed the prescribed path: college, a good job, and settling down. But along the way, I realized that success isn’t just about ticking off society’s checkboxes. It’s about taking control of your own destiny, learning the rules of the game, and mastering the tools that will help you build the life you truly want. Most importantly, I realized if I didn’t stop to ask myself what I actually wanted in life, I was just going to continue checking boxes.

I have always been a reflective person. Philosophy was one of my favorite classes in college, because even though it was just a general education course, it opened my mind to seeing the world in different ways.

As young members of my extended family started graduating from high school, I found myself spending real time and energy reflecting on the advice I wanted to give them – as if they were my own children going into adulthood. While I was probably a little longwinded for some (I can be a bit of a talker) the feedback was the same – they were interested in what I was saying. Children are always more observant than we give them credit for, and they were hungry for advice that would allow them to avoid the same pitfalls as their parents – be it divorce, money troubles, or health issues.

The Mission

The Forge Father was born out of a simple realization: the system is broken.

Our families are more disconnected than ever. Our health is worse than it ever has been. And our society (and country – if in you’re in the US like me) is in the worst debt crises we’ve ever seen.

I realized that no one was ever going to care about my family, my fitness, or my finances more than I would. In a time where the system feels increasingly broken and society pushes us in a hundred different directions, it’s crucial that we step up to take control.

I decided to start this blog to share some of the ways I have been doing just that – taking back control.

This blog is a space for anyone who wants to forge their own path—one that leads to personal growth, financial freedom, and a healthy, fulfilling life.

Why the Forge?

While this blog was born out of a bit of frustration, it was my hope that it would also carry some humor with it – I believe the moniker, The Forge Father, does just that. Like forging metal in real life, it takes strength to create the life you want. It takes hard work, time, patience, and focused effort.
